Mangosteen extract is an active component extracted from mangosteen, which belongs to Garcinia genus of garciniaceae. It contains xanthones, phenolic acids, anthocyanins, polymerized tannins and other components. It has good antioxidant activity, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and anti allergic effects. At present, 83 compounds have been identified from mangosteen, mainly polyphenols, including xanthones, anthocyanins, phenolic acids, polymerized tannins, etc.
Mangosteen contains many unique active substances, mainly including the chemical substances of heterooxyallinone. Some literatures have confirmed that its biological activities have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effects. The human test results showed that taking 600mg of 10% mangosteen extract every day for five consecutive days could effectively reduce 50% of the pain, which was equivalent to the effect of taking the non steroidal drug nimesulide.
